| JUAN GRIS (1887-1927) Gris began ‘serious’ painting in 1910, under the influence of his fellow Spaniard Picasso, and his paintings were almost entirely in the Cubist manner. His palette was usually grey and murky, and he was interested in flat blocks of colour, arranged in architectural compositions. Georges Braque and Juan Gris share similar characteristics in their painting, but Gris went on to include sculpture, book illustration, costume and set design, and writing in his repertoire. |
