| ALBERTO GIACOMETTI (1901-66) The Swiss sculptor and painter would often shrink his subjects into emaciated proportions until they resembled stick-people, with long arms dangling to the floor. In 1948, the exhibition at the Pierre Matisse Gallery in New York established Giacometti’s post-war reputation. He was known for his complete dedication to his work, and is loved as one of the 20th Centuries most original-and amiable-artists. |
